Creating a Podcast was about the last thing I wanted to enter on my to-do list. I was so busy creating training for the Professional Developer’s Program, that I closed my mind to the idea of

I watched or listened to numerous Podcasts from the education arena, private industry, entertainment industry, etc., and started realizing how useful they can be to Human Resource Development. They can be great marketing pieces to the rest of BCPS letting them know how we can support them. There is a lot of talent within HRD and Podcasting is one way to ensure that our clients receive that support.
I attended a training called “Garage Band” where I received the fundamentals of podcasting using Garage Band (a Mac program). I would have benefited from more time with the instructor, but that was not going to happen that day. I suggest that courses such as Garage Band should have training levels for Foundation and Advanced learners. The participants in my class were at different levels and I needed more attention than I received. Still feeling apprehensive because there were many gaps in my knowledge level when the training was over, I decided that I would work on my script and create my Podcast over the winter break while the HRD office was quiet.

W/O 12.24.06 - Writing the script was easy, I love to write. Actually I wrote two scripts as I decided to talk about the two aspects of program planning in which I am quite familiar – creating a theory of change and a logic model.
I used a BCPS issued headset and microphone to record my script. No matter what I did, the volume was not powerful. (what am I doing wrong?) The voice meter stayed on the lower volume indicator. I guess it is the nature of the microphone. I settled for a quiet voice. When I was satisfied with the recorded information, I was ready to split the recorded bars and edit where necessary. This step took about 1 hour. So far, this is not too painful.
